Net Zero Commitment

Wight Vending Ltd supplies, installs and services vending machines, coffee machines and water dispensers across the Isle of Wight and the south of England. We are a small business, and our emissions are correspondingly small — but they are ours, and we are committed to reducing them.

Emissions covered

This commitment covers scope 1 and scope 2 emissions as defined by the GHG Protocol, together with the following scope 3 categories:

• Scope 1Fuel used by our own service vehicles, and any fuel burned at our premises.
• Scope 2Purchased electricity at our depot and warehouse.
• Scope 3Upstream transportation and distribution.
• Scope 3Waste generated in our operations.
• Scope 3Business travel.
• Scope 3Employee commuting.
• Scope 3Downstream transportation and distribution.

What we are doing

These are the measures already in place under our Environmental Policy, and the ones we will apply when performing contracts:

• Planning our rounds to cut mileage. Service visits are grouped by area so that fewer miles are driven for the same work. Being Island-based means our engineers are already local to most of the sites we serve.
• Recycling rather than leaving waste on site. Cardboard and plastic packaging is separated at the customer's site and returned to our depot for recycling. This is checked during our operator and engineer audits.
• Reducing avoidable food waste. Stock levels are matched to how quickly each machine actually sells, so that product turns over well within its date rather than being thrown away. Slow-selling lines are reviewed and changed.
• Energy-efficient equipment. We take energy consumption into account when recommending machines, and enable eco and standby settings and LED lighting where the equipment supports them.
• Responsible end-of-life disposal. Machines and electrical equipment taken out of service are disposed of or recycled under the WEEE Regulations using an authorised contractor, and refrigerant is recovered by a certified engineer before disposal. We are registered with the Environment Agency as a waste carrier, registration CBDL652492.
• Choosing lower-impact suppliers. Environmental performance forms part of how we assess and approve the suppliers we buy from.
• Cleaner vehicles as we replace them. We will consider electric and hybrid options at each vehicle renewal, and move to lower-emission vehicles where the range and payload suit the work.

Measuring our progress

We are establishing a measured emissions baseline for scopes 1 and 2 and for the scope 3 categories listed above, drawn from our fuel, mileage and energy records. We will publish that baseline and report against it on this page.

This commitment is reviewed at least annually at management review, and whenever there is a significant change to our operations. It sits alongside our Environmental Policy and Energy Efficiency Policy, which are available on request.
